Working collaboratively with the residents of a 199- unit public housing high-rise building in Minneapolis, we created and launched a new pilot program in Spring 2019, the Priceless Produce Program (PPP). The idea behind PPP is simple; PPP reduces barriers to accessing high quality, fresh foods for those who need them most. With this in mind, we worked with the residents to create a free, weekly pop-up market in their building featuring fresh produce and nutrient rich breads. The weekly food distribution event has helped to eliminate the cost and travel concerns many of the residents used to face when trying to access fresh foods for their households. It has also provided a weekly social opportunity for residents volunteering to help with the event and for those coming to select their own fresh food. Residents have expressed how grateful they are to have something like this in their building. Several have also shared that this is the first time in their lives they've had regular, weekly access to high quality, fresh produce.
